Red snapper season4/30/2023 ![]() Fishing seasons and bag limits have been highly restricted in the past to better manage the fishery’s numbers. Red snapper are one of the most popular and, at times, controversial fish species in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Red snapper have faced management challenges in recent decades, one of them being capturing accurate fisheries data. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is still running harvest calculations and will be using iSnapper data to conduct a comparative analysis of their own creel surveys, Topping said. “Using the app is an easy way for anglers to get directly involved in citizen science efforts that support better management and access to this fishery.” “Your trip can help give the state a more accurate view of how many fish are being harvested,” said HRI Research Specialist Tara Topping, project lead for iSnapper. The app, created by the Center for Sportfish Science and Conservation at the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies (HRI) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, helps capture the most accurate harvest numbers possible. ![]() By reporting their red snapper catch, anglers can provide valuable data to scientists which can help ensure the long-term sustainability of this prized Gulf of Mexico fishery. CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Anglers are encouraged to download the iSnapper app ahead of the 2022 red snapper season opening in federal waters on June 1.

Dragthing for windows os4/30/2023 But then again, I print and scan rarely, so it doesn’t really bother me. Sure, one could fetch an old printer somewhere. The only reason is for printing or scanning stuff, since my HP Photosmart C3180 All-in-One doesn’t have OS 9 drivers. Leopard performs great on the old hardware, thanks to the 2 GB RAM. The same goes for my Power Mac G4, although it has with a partition with OS X that I’ve recently updated to OS X 10.5 Leopard. For me, good old OS 9 gets the job done on the TiBook. It took me a while, but finally I’ve learned to resist the “faster, higher, further” scheme of modern computing. Why should I buy a new Macintosh if my old one is still just fine? That includes office work, surfing the Internet, emailing, light photo editing, MP3 and DVD playback, instant messaging, and games. ![]() Faster, Higher, Further? No More for Me!īack to everyday use: I found that I don’t need an Intel Mac to get my regular tasks done. Not without mentioning the continued use of OS 9. I no longer need to check back with my bank account to buy and use the software I’d like, though sometimes I still register old OS 9 shareware to show my appreciation. It’s all about tweaking the “perfect system”, following the Low End Mac theme of getting the most out of your old Mac. This is where the fun part starts: It allows you to build an OS 9 system perfectly suited for your needs. Thanks to the abandonware movement,* most of that software for Mac OS 9 is free and available for everyone today. Every now and then I bump into one formerly unknown to me. There are many more small utilities that I use to increase my productivity. It’s also available for OS X and makes you wonder why Apple sticks to its limited dock. Basically, it gives you the functionality of a dock, but with enhancements such as tabs and free positioning on the screen. Next, I added DragThing 2.9, an incredibly powerful shareware utility I’ve become very accustomed to. I didn’t even bother with Kaleidoscope yet. I downloaded an Aqua Theme for the Appearance Manager ( which you can download from Low End Mac’s Dropbox account), added a nice wallpaper, and voilá – it lost its 90’s smell. Luckily that is no problem, thanks to the easy customization of OS 9. OS X spoiled us all in terms of GUI appearance. With 1 GB of RAM, it just flies.Īdmittedly, OS 9 is quite an ugly duckling by default. Going with OS 9.2.2 for the TiBookĮncouraged by the performance of Classilla, I installed OS 9.2.2 on my TiBook. Demoralized by the disappointing results of iCab 3.05 and Internet Explorer 5.17, I turned to Classilla and was greatly impressed. For OS 9, it is the Mozilla-based Classilla that gets the job done. Thanks to the efforts of tireless Cameron Kaiser and others, both operating systems still have functional browser software. The most important software today is arguably your browser. There are thousands of programs out there for each OS, and I only use a handful of them. Most developers have dropped support for 10.4 and/or the PowerPC architecture – not that it is much of a hassle to me. With Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger becoming increasingly left behind, the choice between using OS X 10.4 and OS 9.2.2 on the TiBook is the choice between two obsolete operating systems. This TiBook won’t win a prize at a beauty contest, but otherwise it is fully operational. It looks like children with dirty little fingers just touched the screen. The TiBook’s color is chipped off around the edges and the polarizer, the protective film on top of the screen, is damaged. It was one of the last Power Macs able to boot natively into Mac OS 9.Īs for my computing needs on the road, I recently got a used and abused 800 MHz Titanium PowerBook (TiBook) G4 DVI that I rescued from a trashy home. Wonderful memories. That left me with my old configuration, a dual 1 GHz Power Mac G4 MDD maxed out with 2 GB of RAM. I took the money and spent it on a very nice trip with my girlfriend. I’ve sold both my Intel iMac and my MacBook Pro (Late 2008).

It is said that the species was created in 1727 when a natural disaster killed the majority of criollo trees in Trinidad. Trinitario, or “of Trinidad,” is a a hybrid strain of the two other types, combing their better respective qualities of heartiness and flavor. Criollo beans contain a high percentage of cocoa butter, and is considered to be of extremely high quality. As a result, criollo only accounts for about 5% of the world’s chocolate supply, making it more expensive. The criollo tree is the most sensitive of the three types, as it is susceptible to disease, making it difficult to grow. Cheri samba4/29/2023 ![]() The text element in Problème d’eau is ambiguous in meaning. In his paintings, Samba employs all six languages-the choice and order of them, when simultaneous, carefully considered. English, on the other hand, is not on the list. The informed observer will note that the list of languages spoken in the DRC is long: French is the official language, while Lingala, Swahili, Ciluba, and Kikongo are national languages spoken by the majority. IT IS NECESSARY TO SPEND MILLION OF DOLLARS TO BETTER SERVE HIS PEOPLE IN 100 YEARS.” Yet the artist does not define “his people,” and thus blurs interpretations. CONCERNED FOR HIS PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM DEHYDRATION, CHERI SAMBA GOES LOOKING FOR WATER ON PLANET MARS, AS IF THERE WASN’T ANY WATER LEFT ON EARTH YES. Though a tempting reading, it is not a certain one: the diagonal composition may in fact be a formal device, with the stars simply a decorative pattern within it.Ĭhéri Samba has added a caption below the image: “LIFE IS PRICELESS. The arithmetic of the predominant, repetitive pattern of stars, 6 + 1, suggests another possible layer of meaning, evoking the flag adopted in 1960 during Independence, remobilized in 1997, and in use in 2004, when the artist painted his canvas. The slight diagonal of the composition, and its stars, suggest the flag of the DRC: the one in use since 2006, and from 1963 to 1971. In the period following the country’s two civil wars (1996–2003), in the contexts of organic corruption and, in particular, the dysfunction of the Congolese Regideso (the public water utility in charge of distribution), to seek water in space may have seemed easier than to resolve local tensions. Chéri Samba, born (David) Samba wa Mbimba N’zingo Nuni Masi Ndo Mbasi in 1956 in Kinto M’Vuila, in the Bas-Congo (now Kongo Central), is originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), called the Republic of Zaire from 1971 to 1997.Īt first glance, it is tempting to read Problème d’eau through the lens of the artist’s origins and to see it as an absurdist social and political critique of the DRC. Repetition is not unusual in Chéri Samba’s work. In both versions, the subject, coloration, and style evoke Hergé’s On a marché sur la Lune ( Explorers on the Moon, 1964), an impression reinforced by the resolutely retro-futurist rocket. Chéri Samba, though still positioned on the prow of the rocket, has traded in one of his buckets for a small yellow container. The composition and colors in this version differ slightly: the corresponding text is not situated at the top of the canvas but rather to the right, above a pebbled planet Mars rendered in moonlike colors. There is at least one variation, also from 2004, which is titled only in French: Où trouver l’eau. Originally in the CAAC (Contemporary African Art Collection) of Jean Pigozzi, this painting was notably on display in 2007 in the Italian Pavilion of the 52nd Venice Biennale. ![]() The bilingual title and English inscription below it float above the scene like a speech bubble in a comic strip, playing the dual role of heading and guide to its subject’s quandary: where to find water. ![]() Holding two buckets and a kerosene lamp, which illuminates his face, the artist looks concerned, eminently so, about a complex problem needing to be solved. He has ignored the rules of perspective and instead focused on the details of textures, on the dialogue between his silky, loosely fitting, blood-red suit draped as if on statuary, and a piece of rough rock-the planet Mars, which is poised to meet him. As if weightless, his pose evokes Auguste Rodin’s The Thinker, but turned on its side. In this self-portrait, made in 2004, the artist has depicted himself in the deep blackness of space, seated just right of center on the nose of a rocket and surrounded by hundreds of carefully arranged stars. Where to Find Water) is a large acrylic painting on canvas by Chéri Samba (Congolese, born 1956).
